As we begin another exciting school year, we want to thank students for the positive energy and enthusiasm they have brought to our school and the surrounding community. 

We have received concerns from a neighboring community partner regarding a few recent incidents involving inappropriate behaviour on their property during the school day, including vandalism, vaping, smoking, and misuse of facilities. These actions do not reflect the values of Lord Beaverbrook High School and can affect our relationships with organizations that welcome and support our students.  

We ask all students to: 

• Treat community facilities and shared spaces with respect. 
• Follow all school and community expectations regarding behaviour. 
• Dispose of garbage properly and leave spaces as they were found. 
• Refrain from vaping, smoking, or using substances on private property. 
• Remember that they represent Lord Beaverbrook whenever they are off campus during the school day. 

We appreciate the vast majority of students who make positive choices every day. By showing respect for our neighbors and community partners, we help ensure these spaces remain welcoming for everyone. 

We are asking for your partnership by having a conversation with your student about these expectations and reviewing the CBE Student Code of Conduct (Administrative Regulation 6005) and Progressive Student Discipline (Administrative Regulation 6006) together. These expectations are intended to help students make safe, respectful, and responsible choices while providing opportunities to learn when concerns arise. We have attached both Administrative Regulations for you to review with your student.

REMINDER – Student Drop off and Pick Up 

The main staff parking lot is reserved for Staff, and Visitors with appointments. It is imperative that it is always kept clear for Emergency Vehicles and First Responders.  

Parents are NOT to drop students off or pick them up from school in the main lot at anytime. All dropping off and picking up must be done on 90^th Avenue. Please consider all of our staff and student’s safety and respect the Do Not Enter Signs and the No Parking Fire Lane signs. This lot is explicitly reserved for Staff, Emergency Vehicles, and Visitors with booked appointments.

 Information Evening for Grade 10 Parents/Guardians – High School 101 

Join us for Welcome to Grade 10 Parent/Guardian Night, on September 24^th from 6:30-8:00 pm at the school. This is an evening designed to help parent(s) or guardian(s) support a successful transition to high school. Learn about daily schedules, academic and attendance expectations, student supports, and ways to stay connected to your child's learning. Academic Information  

This is a reminder that all Math students are expected to bring a calculator to class each day. We do not have calculators available for loan, and cell phones are not permitted for classroom calculations. 

Athletics 

• Cross country is up and running! Our first event is Wednesday, September 16^th at Canmore Park! The parent meeting for all cross- country athletes is on September 14^th at 4:00. Please meet in the front foyer!   
• Interested in trying Field Hockey? Or experienced players wanting to touch up on their skill? The Field Hockey coaches are offering a Field Hockey Boot Camp Sept 11, 18 and Oct 2^nd after school starting at 2:20. No experience required – just bring athletic gear and a water bottle! (Returning players should bring shin guards and a mouth guard). 

Football Game Admission & Family Pass Information 

As the regular football season begins, we would like to remind families that admission fees will be charged at all Junior and Senior regular season football games in accordance with Calgary Senior High School Athletic Association (CSHSAA) policy.  

Game Admission Rates 

• Adults: $5 
• Students/Children: $2 
• Children under 6: Free 

Payment by tap is preferred at the gate, although limited cash options will be available if needed.  

Football Family Passes 

To help offset costs for families, each football athlete has received one Family Pass that admits up to four people to regular season football games. These passes have been distributed through the football program.  

Family Pass Terms of Use 

• Must be presented at the time of entry 
• Valid only when accompanied by a parent or guardian 
• Admits up to four people 
• Additional family members must pay regular gate admission 
• Lost, stolen, forgotten, or misplaced passes will not be replaced 
• Valid for regular season football games only 
• Not valid for playoff games

Course Changes and Course Drop Deadline 

Course changes for semester one is now complete.  

The deadline to drop a course for semester one is October 30, 2026. Please ensure that if you need to drop a course you book an appointment with your guidance counsellor before this date.

High School IPP Process  

Teachers have access to all IPP information from previous CBE schools. Shared IPP information from previous school boards will be entered in early September.  

September - Teachers read through IPPs from last year and get to know students. Teacher and student set a target for the semester (usually a skill or behaviour needing improvement related to IPP diagnosis) 

October 9 - draft IPP is sent home for review and request for edits 

LBHS IPP Accommodations 

1. Classroom accommodations 

2. Access to The Learning Lounge after instruction. A space available for students on an IPP to: work, regulate, focus, use a Chromebook, get one on one support, use voice typing for written work, set up exam accommodations. Student may request IPP access or Teachers may send student. 

3. Exam Accommodation for Multiple Choice Exams (audio reader on a Chromebook with headphones in The Learning Lounge).   

4. Exam Accommodation for Written Response (voice typing on a Chromebook in The Learning Lounge).  

Important Information  

All students on an IPP have a target for self-advocacy and communication. Students will be reminded and encouraged to use their IPP accommodations, particularly grade 10s. Students will be reminded and encouraged to communicate with their teachers about strategies and accommodations that have been successful previously or that they'd like to try. 

Exam Accommodations  

Need to be requested with the teacher at least 1-2 days before exam. Students need to bring their own headphones for multiple choice exam reader. Students must use exam accommodations throughout the semester in order to be able to use for final exams and diploma exams. The Learning Lounge (room 108) will manage extra time if needed. 

Yearbooks 

Yearbooks can be purchased directly through Josten's website Purchase Yearbook here to secure your copy.  We also have a very limited number of books available from last school year, please reach out to tmwatt@cbe.ab.ca for details. Additionally, students are encouraged to submit artwork related to the theme "This Magic Moment" to be chosen for divider artwork and the cover of the book by October 2. Encourage your student to see The ROAR for more details. 

Annual Volunteer Registration Required 

To help ensure the safety and security of all students and staff, all volunteers must complete the Annual Volunteer Registration Form each school year before participating in school volunteer activities. This requirement applies to both new and returning volunteers.  

• Parents and guardians can register through the SchoolEngage tab in their MyCBE account. 
• Volunteers must review and acknowledge the privacy requirements as part of the registration process. 
• Community members who do not have a child registered with CBE must complete their registration in person at the school where they wish to volunteer.

CTS Heavy Shops: PPE Info & Clarification 

As students get settled into their Heavy Shops classes, we want to share a quick reminder about safety equipment. Safety glasses are provided for all students, while some shops may also require lab coats/coveralls, appropriate footwear, gloves, or hard hats. Some courses may allow students to bring their own PPE if they prefer, provided it meets safety guidelines. Students should speak with their shop teacher for specific PPE requirements and details. 

Outdoor Club: Next Meeting 

Outdoor club met with a large group of students showing interest on Wednesday this week at lunch.  Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday September 16, afterschool in the East Courtyard.  If students have an interest in the upcoming hike and future Outdoor Club events and activities, they should attend the meeting.  A D2L shell is in the process of being created to be able to keep everyone up to date! 

Outdoor Club: Parent Volunteers Needed 

Outdoor Club needs parents with Wilderness First Aid (WFA), volunteer registration, and a valid police check to help cover supervision on our outdoor excursions throughout the year!  If you have WFA and have a love for taking young adults into the outdoors, contact Mr. Slaughter: sjslaughter@cbe.ab.ca 

CBE Caregiver Series 2026 

Families and caregivers are invited to attend a series of free online sessions focused on supporting child and youth well-being. Topics include ADHD, mental health, vaping, school avoidance, digital wellness, sexual health, and building supportive communities for youth. Additional information, session dates, and registration details can be found in the attached flyer.  

Beaverbrook Sailing Trip 

Sailing Trip is April 4-April 8, 2027.  Please see Ms. Murphy in room 217 for interest forms.  Applications are due October 1^st.  Contact Ms. Murphy at kmmurphy@cbe.ab.ca with any questions. 

LBHS Adventure in Spain! - Spring 2027 

LBHS is excited to offer students an educational travel opportunity to Spain during Spring Break 2027! Students will explore several regions of Spain while making connections to Spanish language, culture, history, art, and Social Studies.
