Suncors, 260k gift, Career pathways, CBE students

The Calgary Board of Education is celebrating a major investment in student success, thanks to a $260,000 donation from Suncor through its Energizing Youth initiative. The funding will directly support CBE students by expanding access to essential supplies, hands-on learning and future-focused career opportunities.

This donation was made through EducationMatters, CBE’s public trust and fundraising partner.

With this gift, Suncor is helping ensure students have what they need to fully participate in their learning, whether that’s a backpack and supplies or access to programs that build skills for life after high school.

“Students across our system will have greater access to explore future career and education pathways, made possible through the generosity of Suncor’s Energizing Youth initiative,” added Joanne Pitman, Chief Superintendent.

Through Energizing Youth, Suncor is supporting initiatives that help students engage more deeply in their learning, including:

  • Dual Credit and Exploratory programs and courses for equity deserving high school students
  • Provincial and national skills competitions for CBE students representing the city of Calgary in 2026
  • The 2025 and 2026 Backpack & Essentials Campaign, providing equity deserving K-12 students  with a new backpack filled with school supplies that supports learning at school and at home

EducationMatters continues to work with the CBE and community partners to ensure all students can access meaningful learning opportunities and essential supplies. Suncor’s investment marks an important step in advancing that work.

At a Nov. 24 event at  celebrating  this new partnership, EducationMatters also unveiled a new brand that reflects their renewed commitment to inspiring and facilitating community investment in support of public education.

“Our partnership with Suncor brings our mission to life by directly connecting community investment to CBE student success,” said Stephanie Washbrook, Executive Director of EducationMatters. “We’re thrilled to share our new brand with the community and keep driving work that ensures every student has what they need to thrive.”

We're grateful for partners like Suncor, who believe in the powerful potential of CBE students.
